Why is Jacksonville State not in the FCS playoffs?
Jacksonville State football is in transition for the 2022 season as it moves from FCS to FBS. With the Gamecocks adding 22 scholarship players as part their move, they are no longer eligible for the FCS playoffs. They are also not eligible for FBS bowl games as part of the transition.

Each conference receives $6 million from the College Football Playoff for each team selected for a semifinal game and $4 million for each team that plays in a non-playoff bowl under the College Football Playoff. There is no additional payout for the National Championship Game, only additional expenses covered.
